We want our wind farm investments to deliver long term social, economic and environmental benefits for everyone. Along with our joint venture partners, we have wind farm community benefit funds in place to encourage stronger interaction and engagement with communities neighbouring our wind farms as well as helping those communities to become more sustainable through the support of positive local initiatives and activities.

We are investing more than €1 billion a year to create a sustainable energy future.
Delivering a Net Zero Future
Turlough Hill, Ireland’s only pumped storage power station, located in the scenic Wicklow Mountains, was brought into commercial operation in 1974. This innovative and environmentally-friendly project was the largest civil engineering operation ever undertaken in the country when construction began in 1968.
Watch VideoWe are committed to the sustainable sourcing of materials (including recycled materials) and implementing end of-life plans for wind turbines, solar panels, and batteries to maximise reuse or recycling of material.
That is why we have collaborated with BladeBridge, a Cork based start-up that specialises in wind turbine blade repurposing.
We partnered with Bord na Móna to develop Ireland's largest onshore wind farm, Oweninny in North Mayo. It has an installed capacity of 192MW, producing enough clean energy to meet the electricity demand of approximately 140,000 homes.
Watch VideoOur 2024 ESB Science Blast events have started as we aim to equip a whole generation of primary school children with fundamental lifelong scientific and problem-solving skills, not only preparing them for life in the 21st Century but also opening a future full of possibilities.
