Deputy Chief Executive
The Chief Executive of ESB Pat O'Doherty today announced the appointment of Jerry O'Sullivan as Deputy Chief Executive with effect from the end of September. Jerry will replace Brid Horan who has been Deputy Chief Executive since May 2013.
"Brid has made a huge contribution to ESB, most recently as Deputy Chief Executive and, from 2006, as Executive Director Services and Customer Supply. In that role Brid re-launched and successfully rebranded our supply business under the Electric Ireland banner. Brid has played a vital commercial and strategic role in ESB and has been for me a highly valued colleague. I wish her every success in the future as she moves on from ESB to concentrate on her non-executive roles." said Pat O'Doherty.
Prior to joining ESB IN 1997 as Group Pensions Manager, Brid headed up KPMG's Pension and Actuarial Consultancy. Brid has extensive board experience in the public and private sectors and will continue to serve in a number of non-executive roles, including as an independent non-executive director of FBD Holdings plc.
Welcoming the new Deputy Chief Executive, Pat O'Doherty said "Jerry O'Sullivan is an immensely experienced and respected member of ESB's leadership team. He has played a critical role in the renewal of ESB's network countrywide over the last decade to ensure that Ireland has a world class electricity infrastructure. I look forward to working with Jerry over the coming years as ESB continues to bring sustainable and competitive energy solutions to all our customers."
Jerry O'Sullivan was appointed Managing Director of ESB Networks in 2010. Prior to that he held a range of senior executive positions in the company. He joined ESB in 1981 and is a civil engineer. He is a board member of the European Technology Forum, of Smart Grid Ireland, of the UCD Energy institute and is a council member of the US based Electric Power Research Institute.

ESB's Chief Executive today also paid tribute to the contribution of John McSweeney, ESB's Head of Innovation who is to retire from ESB at the end of October.
John was appointed ESB's Head of Innovation in 2012 with a wide range of responsibilities including ESB International, ESB's recently launched Fibre telecommunications joint venture with Vodafone, electric vehicles and ESB Novus Modus - ESB's clean tech fund.
John McSweeney, an engineer by profession, joined ESB in 1992, having previously held senior positions in the IDA and with PARC International and having served in the Army as an officer both at home and abroad.
"John has successfully held a great variety of senior and critical roles in ESB. I want to thank John and to acknowledge his extraordinary contribution over more than two decades and to wish him every continued success on his retirement from the company" said Mr. O’Doherty.
