ESB Networks and South Dublin CC Tackle Illegally Dumped Waste, Litter & Graffiti

The Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr. Fintan Warfield and the Environment and Sustainability Manager, from ESB Networks Tom Flynn, today (30th July 2014) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which sets out agreed procedures to deal with illegal dumping of waste, litter and graffiti at ESB Network’s sub-stations in South Dublin County Council’s local authority area. 

Among the key features in the MoU are:

  • Standardised procedure for reporting illegal dumping of waste, litter and graffiti issues.
  • ESB Networks will remove illegally dumped waste and litter within 5 working days of being notified by South Dublin County Council.
  • Any graffiti issue will be addressed within 10 working days (racist or other provocative graffiti will be removed within 5 working days).
  • South Dublin County Council will work with ESB Networks to tackle recurring problems at identified sites.
Speaking at the signing event, Mayor Fintan Warfield said: “It is extremely important that we portray our county in the best way we can, and this initiative will help us do this in a very tangible way by addressing the problem of illegal dumping of waste, litter and graffiti, in a joint partnership approach between South Dublin County Council and ESB Networks. This builds on an a similar MoU which Dublin City Council and ESB Networks signed earlier in the year, and I would recommend that all local authorities follow suit.”

Tom Flynn, Environment and Sustainability Manager with ESB Networks, added: “This MoU with South Dublin County Council is a very welcome development in helping us meet our environmental commitments and is the second such MoU now in place with a Local Authority, dealing with the problem of illegal dumping of waste, litter and graffiti. Again, it is an excellent example of a Utility and Local Authority working in partnership to keep South Dublin County clean, for the enjoyment of the people who live and work there and it’s many visitors. It is also a very real example of ESB’s commitment to working responsibly in the community inkeeping with our sustainability strategy. We intend to further progress this initiative with the other local authorities in the greater Dublin area and around the country.”
