The Electricity Association of Ireland (EAI) invites students to represent the all-island electricity sector at this year’s EURELECTRIC conference, with the chance of winning an iPad, PLUS transport and accommodation and participation in the Berlin event, sponsored by ESB.
EURELECTRIC is the sector association which represents the common interests of the electricity industry at a pan-European level. This year’s two day conference ‘The Consumer Powered Energy Transition’ (1-2 June), will focus on the transition to a European customer-centric energy market.
Students from all EURELECTRIC member countries can compete for the EURELECTRIC Student Award 2015 but they must be sponsored by their national electricity association. The winning EAI entry will be short-listed for the EURELECTRIC Student Award and invited to attend the conference in Berlin, where the European/overall winner will be announced.
EAI Chief Executive Owen Wilson said: “The Conference typically attracts senior executives from the energy industry and European and international organisations. The EURELECTRIC Student Award is an integral part of the conference programme and provides a fantastic opportunity for young people from across Europe to engage with the electricity sector.”
The EURELECTRIC Student Award winner will be expected to present his/her short paper to an audience of around 400 delegates at a formal award ceremony during the conference.
Executive Director of Innovation at ESB Paul Mulvaney said: “ESB is delighted to be sponsoring the EAI student representative. This year’s conference is particularly relevant for the next generation as it seeks to address the challenges to the energy world of tomorrow with, for example, low carbon sustainable generation, smart technology and innovation increasingly coming to the fore. At ESB we’re keen to show our support for the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to help maintain, develop and enhance our electricity system so it can continue to meet the needs of a modern Ireland.”
To enter you must be in possession of a student card, and aged 27 years or under. Students are invited to submit a one page (A4) essay entitled: ‘Dinosaurs of the past or innovators of the future? Designing digital strategies to engage domestic customers.’
Please email a copy of your essay to EAI Membership and Communications Officer, Rachael Mullins (rachael.mullins@eaireland.com) by Friday 27th March.
Essays will only be accepted by EURELECTRIC via EAI. Please contact EAI with any queries (+353 1 5241046).
EAI is the representative body for the electricity sector operating within the Single Electricity Market (SEM) on the island of Ireland.
National prize sponsor: ESB is a strong, diversified, vertically integrated utility, operating right across the electricity market: from generation, through transmission and distribution to supply. It also extracts further value at certain points along this chain: supplying gas, using its networks to carry fibre for telecommunications and more. With a regulated asset base (RAB) of approximately €9 billion, 43% of generation in the all-island market and supplier of electricity to approximately 1.5 million customers throughout the island of Ireland, ESB is a leading Irish utility focussed on providing excellent customer service and maintaining its financial strength. As at 31 December 2014, ESB Group employed approximately 7,150 people.
