Electric Ireland customers to receive automatic long-term savings off their bills

  • Automatic reduction in bills through a range of long-term savings to commence in the coming weeks, meaning savings for almost one million Electric Ireland customers by the end of the summer
  • Electric Ireland is the only energy supplier to apply savings automatically to customers – both Direct Debit and non-Direct Debit customers who pay on time and in full - with no contract or exit fees

Electric Ireland announced this morning that it will automatically apply a range of long-term savings to its customers’ bills in the coming weeks.

By the end of this summer, a total of almost one million Electric Ireland customers will see these savings on their bills, and the savings will continue to be automatically applied every year, with no contract, no renewal requirement or no exit fee. Electric Ireland is the first energy provider to reward loyal customers in this way.

Last year, Electric Ireland introduced a range of new enduring annual savings for customers who pay by Direct Debit, or have online billing, or have both electricity and gas accounts with Electric Ireland. Customers can save up to 8.5% on their bill every year and many customers have opted in to these savings already. 

Now, Electric Ireland is applying these savings automatically to all relevant customers. In addition, a new saving is being automatically applied for customers who don’t pay by direct debit but who always pay their bill on time. These customers will receive a 4% saving, which can increase to 7.5% if they use online billing, and have both electricity and gas with Electric Ireland.

Electric Ireland’s General Manager Paul Stapleton commented: “At Electric Ireland we put our customers first and are fully committed to rewarding them for their loyalty by giving them the best long-term value in the market.  For too long, the energy market has been about switching and giving the lowest prices to new customers on short term contracts.  Our commitment is that all our customers can benefit from our best prices and the savings will endure year after year. We reward customers who pay by direct debit but we also acknowledge that option doesn’t suit everyone so we are delighted to introduce a new saving for customers who don’t pay by direct debit but who consistently pay their bill on time.”

Customers who are eligible for the new long-term savings don’t need to call us, they will receive a letter in the coming weeks, well in advance of winter bills.

Electric Ireland remains the best supplier for long-term savings in the market. Electric Ireland customers can also avail of further treats and discounts through the Electric Ireland Rewards loyalty programme.

  • Customers who pay by Direct Debit and have not already signed up for Stay Happy discounts will have a 5% enduring discount applied to their bills.
  • Dual Fuel customers who have not already signed up for Stay Happy discounts will have a 3% discount enduring discount applied to their bills.
  • Customers who receive their bill electronically and who have not already signed up for discounts will receive a 0.5% Stay Happy discount.
  • Any combination of these, will receive the total of the discounts.
  • For instance, a Dual Fuel customer who pays by Direct Debit (DD) and receives their bills electronically, will receive a 5% + 3% + 0.5% = 8.5% discount;
