17 June 2019
ESB has this afternoon welcomed publication of the all-of-Government Plan on climate action, setting out an ambitious pathway to help Ireland achieve its climate targets.
The Government Climate Action Plan to Tackle Climate Breakdown is significant in charting a course for reducing carbon emissions in every sector of the Irish economy. It places emphasis on accelerating the electrification of our heating and transport systems, underpinned by electricity generation moving to zero or close-to-zero carbon technologies out to 2050.
ESB Chief Executive Pat O’Doherty, commented: "Today marks a significant milestone in Ireland’s energy future. It will inform the wider electricity industry on the actions to be taken as we transition to a low carbon society. At ESB, we are committed to playing our part in reaching the ambitious target of 70 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2030."
