ESB Archives

ESB Archives was formally established in 1991 and collects, preserves and makes accessible the history of ESB. The collection reflects the unique contribution ESB has made to the economic and social development of Ireland.

Our website www.esbarchives.ie provides a virtual archives experience outlining 90 years of ESB’s rich heritage of innovations and showcases digitised content from paper and audio visual collections preserved in  ESB Archives.

The existing collection of archives consists of records and material from ESB's business units and the corporate centre and includes:

  • Shannon Scheme Development 
  • Rural Electrification in Ireland 
  • Development of Stations
  • Audio visual material including photographs, film, oral histories
  • Marketing and promotional material
