Electric Ireland’s ‘This Is Major’ campaign looked at creating major moments for Minor players as well as for the local schools, clubs and communities that support them. Electric Ireland wanted to offer local communities a chance to win a major moment and are delighted to bring together Tinahely GAA Club with All-Star winning footballer, Daniel Goulding for a training session at their own club. The Tinahely Minor team won the competition, but it was an experience for the entire club.
Edel McCarthy, Sponsorship Manager, at Electric Ireland commented; “Electric Ireland believes in the importance of providing opportunities to young talent to develop and grow their skillset, driving passion for and interest in their sport. Electric Ireland is delighted to be able to offer this squad of young players the chance to play with a GAA great on the field. Moments such as this will stay with a player throughout their playing career, empowering them to drive themselves forward to achieve great success and to us at Electric Ireland, that is Major!”
Daniel coached an hour-long tactical focused training session with the team, where he used his expertise to help with kicking, tackling and shooting drills. The day was rounded off with a meet and greet in the Clubhouse attended by Club members where Daniel offered his insights on working towards a GAA career at County Level.
Wicklow and Tinahely Minor player, Eoin Darcy was named on the 2018 Electric Ireland Minor Football Team of the Year and was recognised at the Electric Ireland Minor Star Awards, held in September at Croke Park. Eoin attended the interactive session with Daniel Goulding, and commented, saying: “It was great to have Daniel at Tinahely GAA Club today, he is a legend on the Football field, so to be able to play with him on our own home pitch and learn a bit from him afterwards about his own experience of getting into the County jersey was inspiring for myself and the team; we all work really hard so it is nice to see first hand from Daniel how that effort can pay off on the field into the future. The visit brought brilliant excitement for the whole club, this will most definitely stand out as a major moment for me!”.
The young Wicklow men made an impression on Cork born and raised Daniel who commented; “The training session was great fun, I was really impressed by the level of talent on the pitch here in Tinahely GAA Club. The lads got stuck into it right from the beginning and looked to have really enjoyed the various drills and skills we practiced. It is great to see such dedication from young men, it’s definitely a bright future for Wicklow GAA”
