Engineering and Quantity Surveying

As an undergraduate in electrical, mechanical, civil engineering or quantity surveying, you’re beginning to build the foundational skills that will eventually let you contribute to major infrastructure projects, renewable energy development and network expansion. At this stage, you’re exploring how these industries work, gaining early practical experience and developing the technical and analytical abilities that will support future projects powering communities, strengthening national systems and driving sustainable growth.

Business and IT

As an undergraduate in commercial, IT, finance, marketing or human resources, you’re beginning to build the core skills that will help you understand how modern businesses operate and grow. You’ll gain early experience across commercial strategy, digital systems, financial decision‑making, people management and brand development, giving you a broad foundation to support future work that strengthens business performance, improves customer experiences and drives organisational success.

Our Undergraduate Placement Programme is open to students currently enrolled in a recognised third-level programme are eligible to apply. Undergraduate students should apply through their university placement officer or careers office. 

Our placement opportunities are designed to align with different academic requirements and typically run for: 

  • 6 months 

  • 9 months 

  • 12 months 

Placement duration will depend on your course requirements and the opportunity you apply for.

Applications for placements beginning in January 2027 and March 2027 open on 7 September 2026 and close on 28 September 2026. 

Yes. Undergraduate placements can be a valuable pathway to our Graduate Programme, with participants given the opportunity to apply early and continue building their career with ESB after graduation. 

As an undergraduate at ESB, you'll work on meaningful projects and contribute to real business activities from day one. Depending on your placement area, you may be involved in problem-solving, project work, data analysis, engineering activities, customer-focused initiatives, or business support functions. 

You'll gain hands-on experience while working alongside experienced professionals who will help support your development throughout your placement. 

Placement opportunities are available across a variety of ESB locations throughout Ireland. Specific locations will be outlined within each job advertisement.
