Electric Ireland announces significant price reductions for its 1.2 million residential electricity and gas customers

Electric Ireland residential electricity and gas customers to benefit from reductions of up to €100 off their annual bills: 
• 2.5 per cent residential electricity price reduction means €22 saving for customers
• 11.5 per cent residential gas price reduction means €78 saving for customers

Electric Ireland has announced it is reducing its electricity unit prices by 2.5 per cent and gas unit prices by 11.5 per cent, effective from 1st April 2020 for its 1.2 million residential customers. 

This reduction will benefit Electric Ireland’s average residential electricity customers with a reduction of €22 (including VAT) per year and Electric Ireland’s average residential gas customers with a reduction of €78 (including VAT) per year. This is a combined annual reduction of €100 for Electric Ireland’s dual fuel customers.

Commenting on the price reduction, Marguerite Sayers, Executive Director, Electric Ireland said:

“We know value continues to be important to our customers so we are delighted to reduce prices for our 1.2 million residential energy customers. This is Electric Ireland’s largest reduction in gas prices since we began selling gas and means our dual fuel customers will benefit from a combined reduction of €100 per year.

“In addition, we provide customers with a long-standing discount rate that doesn’t disappear after a year, innovative new products and the right energy advice. This demonstrates our commitment to offering great value and service in a very competitive market.”

  • Electricity Standard Unit prices will reduce by 2.5 per cent resulting in an average reduction in overall bills of €22.
  • Gas Standard Unit prices will reduce by 11.5 per cent resulting in an average reduction in overall bills of €78.
  • Average reductions based on the typical residential gas customer with a usage of 11,000 kWh per annum and the typical residential electricity customer with a usage of 4,200 kWh, as defined by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).
  • Other new Electric Ireland products introduced as part of the “We’re Brighter Together” campaign include; 100 per cent Green Electricity price plans, installation of EV chargers for electric vehicles (the only large supplier offering this service), Ireland’s only heat pump price plan, smart heating control systems, solar PV panels and battery storage solutions.
