Six bay High Powered EV Charging Hub launched at Lesley Bloomfield Shopping Centre, Bangor

10 July 2025

We have continued our programme of improvements to the EV charging network across Northern Ireland with the opening of a new six bay High Powered Charging (HPC) Hub at the Lesley Bloomfield Shopping Centre in Bangor.

Key Features of the new ESB HPC Hub:

  • High Power Charging: Three 200kW high-powered chargers capable of delivering up to 100kw of charge in as little as six minutes, enabling rapid charging for EV drivers across the region.
  • Contactless Payment: The new chargers support contactless payment options, allowing for a seamless and hassle-free charging experience.
  • Strategic Location: Positioned in the busy Lesley Bloomfield shopping centre with the capacity to charge six EV’s simultaneously,  reducing wait times and ensuring maximum accessibility and convenience for EV drivers in the wider Bangor area.

Conveniently located on the Bangor ring road, Lesley Bloomfield Shopping Centre is Ards and North Down’s premier shopping experience.  With 60 brands in a covered mall and retail park it attracts 4 million customers annually and has been a destination for EV charging since 2012.

This new HPC Hub is part of ESB's broader strategy to expand its network of high-speed chargers across the region, ensuring that EV drivers have access to reliable and efficient charging infrastructure wherever they go.

It is situated close to a number of popular attractions including the North Down Coastal walk, Brompton Bay and Groomsport Harbour, making this an invaluable asset not only for regular users of the shopping centre, but also for all EV drivers visiting the wider Bangor region and coastline.

"At ESB, we are dedicated to driving the adoption of electric vehicles by providing charging solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers," said Francis O’Donnell, Head of eMobility at ESB. "The introduction of our new High Power Charger hub is a testament to our ongoing efforts to lead the way in transforming Northern Ireland's EV charging network."

Jamie Bill, Centre Manager at Lesley Bloomfield also welcomed the announcement, “Lesley Bloomfield was an early entrant into the EV charger world with our first ESB chargers installed in 2012.  We are delighted to once again be at the leading edge of this technology with the introduction of these high power chargers which we know our existing customers will love and will attract new visitors to the scheme”
