ESB is a founding member of Free Electrons, an advanced global accelerator programme designed to support entrepreneurs and start-ups who are working to transform the energy market with next-generation ideas.
Now in its third year, this unique programme allows participating start-ups the opportunity to work closely with 10 global utility companies such as ESB, American Electric Power, EDP (Portugal) and CPL (Hong Kong).
In April, 30 start-ups travelled to Dublin for the bootcamp stage of the programme, with 15 finalists selected to go forward to Module 1 in Ohio. There, the finalists will start working with the utilities on refining and testing their products with the potential to reach 73 million worldwide customers in more than 40 countries.
Watch ESB Deputy Chief Executive, Jerry O’Sullivan, explain the importance of such initiatives as Free Electrons to both utilities and start-ups as they embark on creating a low-carbon future.
