Electric Ireland won awards this week at the Bonkers.ie second annual awards in Dublin and the European Sponsorship Awards in London.
Electric Ireland scooped the top award at both events with the Grand Prix Award for Consumer Excellence and European Sponsorship of the Year.
Bonkers.ie National Consumer Awards
Electric Ireland has taken top honours in the prestigious 2018 bonkers.ie National Consumer Awards at a ceremony in Dublin last night. As well as the Grand Prix, the energy supplier also won three categories – Best Energy Price Plan, Best Energy Efficiency Service and Best Community Sponsorship Engagement. The bonkers.ie national consumer awards which celebrate companies that provide exceptional value and service to customers in Ireland. Electric Ireland topped a field which included energy providers, banks and telecom companies
The awards included:-
- Best Community Sponsorship Engagement for Darkness into Light. Electric Ireland was one of 5 entrants including Eir, Energia, SSE Airtricity & Virgin Media
- Best Energy Price Plan (Existing Customer): Electric Ireland was one of 1 of 4 shortlisted with Energia, Flogas & SSE Airtricity.
- Best Energy Efficiency Service for our Smarter home app. For this we were up against Bord Gais Energy, Energia, Pinergy & SSE Airtricity
- The Grand Prix – this was the overall award for the overall best customer business against every company shortlisted.
Bobby Kerr, Chairman of the judges said:
“Electric Ireland won the overall award for their Customer Centricity, innovative pricing that rewards customer loyalty, their decision to suspend their price increase for customers till February and their partnership with Pieta House and the community with their sponsorship of Darkness Into Light”.

European Sponsorship Awards
Electric Ireland was internationally recognised for excellence at the European Sponsorship Awards (ESA) at the Science Museum, London on Wednesday 7th February for its sponsorship of Darkness into Light with Pieta House. Electric Ireland picked up two awards:-
- CSR Partnership of the Year 2017
- European Sponsorship of the Year 2017
The ESA Excellence Awards show case the best in class campaigns across Europe and cover the entire spectrum of sponsorship disciplines.
Electric Ireland has sponsored ‘Darkness Into Light’ for Pieta House or the last five years. Electric Ireland was recognised for its marketing and consumer insight that has helped achieve greater understanding and awareness of the issues relating to suicide and depression and motivating over 180,000 people to get up at 4.15am to do a 5KM walk each year. The sponsorship has also helped generate €4.7 million in 2017 which is used by Pieta House to invest in support services nationwide.
