On Thursday December 6th 2018 at 8pm, the choirs of Dublin Choral Foundation, The Lassus Scholars and Piccolo Lasso will present The ESB Great Christmas Concert 2018 at the National Concert Hall.
Proudly sponsored again by ESB, the Great Christmas Concert celebrates the continued success of Ireland’s foremost musical festival, Feis Ceoil, founded in 1897.
On this special occasion The Lassus Scholars and Piccolo Lasso, with conductor Dr. Ite O’Donovan, will be joined by the Orlando Chamber Orchestra, under leader Gillian Williams.
ESB Feis Ceoil prize-winners and extraordinary talented young stars of the stage, flautist Meadhbh O’Rourke (playing Poulenc Flute Sonata arr. Lennox Berkeley) and JJ McNamara (playing the third movement of Chopin’s 1st piano concerto) will also join the festivities.
Currently appearing in the role of Adina in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore in Oslo Opera House having given highly-acclaimed performances in Zurich, Rome, London, Berlin and New York, guest soprano Claudia Boyle will sing operatic arias by Bizet (Comme autrefois), Donizetti (O luce di quest’anima) and Gounod (Je veux vivre).
The festive evening of choral Christmas favorites will be completed by audience participation in carols and Christmas songs and a chance to sing-a-long in the “Hallelujah Chorus”.
Speaking at the announcement, Peter O’Shea, Head of Regulation and Corporate Affairs, ESB said: “ESB is delighted to sponsor the Great Christmas Concert again this year. We look forward to what promises to be a wonderful evening with soprano Claudia Boyle, the winners at ESB Feis Ceoil and many other young stars”.
