Minister Timmy Dooley launches ESB High Power EV Charging Hub in Bunratty

  • New charging hub features 4x 360kW high power chargers (HPC),enabling up to eight EVs to charge simultaneously.
  • The strategic location is suitable for commuters in the mid-west and tourists visiting the Wild Atlantic Way and beyond.
Wednesday, June 10, 2026 – ESB’s latest high power electric vehicle (EV) charging hub, has been officially launched by Timmy Dooley TD, Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment at Bunratty Castle Hotel, Bunratty Co. Clare.

The strategic location situated Bunratty Castle Hotel, V95 DW9N ensures those living locally, commuting and those visiting the mid-west and Wild Atlantic Way have access to high power chargers capable of delivering up to up to 220km of range in as little as ten minutes. This latest hub is ESB’s 8th hub in the region and follows the recent openings of ESB High Power EV Charging Hubs in Shannon, Castletroy and Ennis Road in Co. Limerick and Collooney in Co. Sligo.

As Ireland’s largest public EV charge point operator, ESB builds, owns and operates a growing network. The company now operates more than 60 high power charging hubs nationwide, all designed to reduce journey times, minimise wait periods and improve driver confidence on longer routes.

Timmy Dooley TD, Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, said: “Expanding and enhancing EV charging infrastructure is key to accelerating electric vehicle uptake in Ireland. The opening of this charging hub improves accessibility and convenience, ensuring more people in the mid-west will be supported to make the transition to cleaner transport while contributing to achieving our climate targets.”

Speaking at the launch, Suzanne Ward, Head of Developing Business, ESB said:  “This high power charging hub makes EV charging faster, more accessible, and more reliable for drivers in the mid west region. We are committed to creating a cleaner, more sustainable transport future and are dedicated to investing in the charging network with the continued rollout of high power hubs across the island.”

ESB has been developing e-mobility solutions since 2010, when it rolled out the first public charging infrastructure for EV’s across Ireland to support the introduction and demand for electric vehicles nationally. Additional high power hubs are planned for delivery throughout 2026, strengthening Ireland’s EV ecosystem and helping to achieve national climate targets.
