ESB is aware of investment scam ads circulating on social media platforms that falsely claim to be from our organisation. These ads are fraudulent, and we are warning the public not to engage with such content.
What to look out for:
- Fake social media ads offering investment opportunities in ESB. We do not sell shares in ESB or any of our subsidiary companies to the public.
- Fake website pages using ESB branding. Always hover over the URL to verify its authenticity. Scammers often use deceptive website addresses e.g. esb.joebloggs.com. These sites may direct users to registration pages where they are asked to input personal and financial details.
- Fake news articles and sites. Scammers often use clickbait content to spread and promote investment fraud, directing people to registration pages where they are asked to input personal and financial details.
What to do:
- If you suspect fraud or a scam you should immediately contact your bank or financial services provider as well as An Garda Síochána.
- Report any fraudulent online ad to the respective social media company.
- The Central Bank of Ireland advises consumers to take the SAFE test before making any financial decisions or providing any personal information. More information is available on the Central Bank of Ireland website.
