The successful solar trial at our Finglas site

At ESB Telecoms, we are committed to positively impacting society and are dedicated to making a difference in our drive to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.

Our Net Zero by 2040 strategy will be achieved by:

  • Decarbonising Electricity: Delivering a five-fold increase in renewable electricity.
  • Resilient Infrastructure: Continuing to invest in robust infrastructure.
  • Empowering our customers: Providing the infrastructure, products & services to help them live more sustainably.

In line with ESB's strategy, ESB Telecoms conducted a solar trial at our Finglas (Dublin) co-location site, which has the highest power consumption. We installed 30 400 PV panels at the site in our move towards carbon neutral renewable solutions.

The benefits of the solar panels

Over 12 months, the solar panels have yielded impressive results:

  • Reduction of CO2 by 6.7 tonnes.
  • Equivalent of 460 planted trees.
  • On days when the solar panels produce more power than we consume, the surplus energy is returned to the grid, further reducing our carbon footprint.
  • The solar panels also reduce cooling costs by protecting against heat and sun.
  • They have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years and require minimal maintenance.
  • Additionally, we installed a 3-phase Electric Vehicle (EV) charging point, powered by solar panels, enabling our staff and contractors to charge their vehicles conveniently.

Further expansion plans

The success of the solar panels trial in Finglas means ESB Telecoms plans to expand the use of solar panels to 20 of our sites across the country.  This trial underscores ESB Telecoms' pledge to utilise renewable energy solutions and our commitment to contribute to the drive to Net Zero by 2040.
