Corby was one of the first independent power plants constructed in the deregulated U.K. market. Starting production in 1993, it has a capacity of 350 MW – that’s enough power for a city the size of Nottingham.
Its smart design and extremely efficient, low-noise, aircooled condenser allows it to use 90% less water than typical water-cooled plants. This has also eliminated the need for cooling towers and the associated visual impact. The station carried out a gas turbine upgrade in 1999, which led to increased power output and further improved efficiency.
